Breastfeeding support group launched
The Northern Trust has launched a new breastfeeding support group in Antrim.
Research has shown that breastfed babies are less likely to suffer from illnesses such as asthma, childhood diabetes, ear and chest infections than bottle-fed babies. Studies have also shown that breastfed babies are less likely to suffer obesity in later life.
Claire Colhoun, Health Visitor, Northern Trust said, “Breastfeeding can be daunting to new mums, especially those who don’t know anyone who has breastfed before. The support group provides mums with the opportunity to talk about their experiences with each other and to meet new people.
“The group has been set up to help encourage mothers to breastfeed their babies for as long as possible. Each session provides them with the opportunity to learn about issues relating to child health. Each month we will have a different speaker attending the support group to help parents understand the needs of their new baby”.
Why not come along for an informal chat, mother-to-mother support and the latest breastfeeding information. Antrim Breastfeeding Support Group meets on the second Monday of each month from 10am – 12noon in Antrim Lilbrary, Railway Street, Antrim.
