Margaret O'Hagan

Divisional Director of Surgical and Clinical Services 
As Director of the Surgery and Clinical Services Division Margaret is responsible for broad remit of services including inpatient and day case surgery, GI and endoscopy, critical care, anaesthetics, theatres, outpatient, specialist dental, cancer services as well as Radiology and Laboratory services.

Margaret has extensive experience working in the acute hospital environment in the Northern Trust as she worked as Assistant Director of Elective Services and Acute from 2009 and Director of Acute Services from November 2012 until the organisational restructure in October 2015.

Margaret is a nurse by background and worked in a number of medical wards in the Belfast City Hospital. In 1995 Margaret became ward sister of a medical / respiratory ward in the BCH. In 2001 Margaret was appointed as Quality and Complaints Manager in the BCH and in 2003 left to take up post as Assistant Director of Nursing in the Mater Hospital. From the Mater she was seconded to the position of Nursing Officer at DHSSPS working directly to the Chief Nursing Officer covering a diverse portfolio which included Acute Services, Cancer and Palliative Care and Quality and Standards. Immediately prior to coming to the Northern Trust Margaret worked in the Belfast Trust as Senior Manager for Patient Flow and Information Management & Technology for Nurses and Midwives.

Margaret has a BSc (Hons) in Professional Development in Nursing and a Certificate in Health Services Management from the University of Ulster as well as an MSc in Nursing from The Queens University of Belfast. Margaret has spent four years as a council member on the Northern Ireland Practice and Education Council (NIPEC). In 2001 she received a Travel Fellowship to visit Magnet Hospitals in the USA. In November 2006 she was one of only two people from Northern Ireland to receive a UK wide Leadership Fellowship from the Health Foundation in London and more recently completed the Women’s Leadership Initiative sponsored by NI Chief Executives’ Forum.
