Stress Control classes in Newtownabbey and Carrickfergus

The Northern Trust, in partnership with Monkstown Village Initiatives, is organising free Stress Control classes in the Newtownabbey and Carrickfergus areas. ‘Stress Control’ is a six week, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) based self-help course consisting of six 90 minute presentations.

The classes are primarily aimed at people experiencing mild to moderate anxiety or depression but are also available to anyone suffering with stress and to friends and family who may know someone who is stressed or people who would just like to be better equipped in knowing how to deal with stress.

Dr William Mowlds, Clinical Psychologist with the Northern Trust, said: “Stress Control is not group therapy - you will not have to talk about personal issues in front of others. The classes are for anyone who wants to learn more about stress and new skills to manage a very common problem”.

The classes will run in three community locations; Monkstown Village Centre, Oakfield Community Centre, Carrickfergus; & The Dunanney Centre, Rathcoole. Classes will be delivered by a trained Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and staff from the Northern Trust’s Psychological Therapies Service.

The classes will meet at Monkstown Village Centre on Tuesday evenings (7.00pm – 8.30pm from 11th February – 18th March), Oakfield Community Centre, Carrickfergus on Wednesday evenings (7.00pm – 8.30pm from 12th February – 19th March), and The Dunanney Centre, Ratchoole on Thursday mornings (11.00am – 12.30pm from 13th February – 20th March).

Stress Control was successfully delivered in the Newtownabbey and Carrickfergus areas between October and December 2013 and is open to anyone living in the Northern Trust area. The classes might be of interest to people who may not routinely access NHS services, such as younger or older males.

For more information on the classes or to register interest, please contact Rosie Donnelly from Monkstown Village Initiatives on 028 9086 0090.
