Work on new supported living scheme well under way

The new scheme, on the picturesque site of the former Greenisland House Residential Home, will offer residents their own self-contained accommodation. Support and care staff will be on hand 24 hours per day, with domiciliary Staff providing care packages based on the assessed needs of tenants. Thirty two new homes are being provided which will have a mix of one and two bedroomed apartments for up to 37 people.

This Supported Living Scheme will provide an innovative living solution and appropriate housing support to assist older people with different levels of care needs who wish to remain within their local community. The Scheme will help to promote social inclusion and further enhance independence and quality of life for Tenants.

A new base for an electricity substation has been completed and is ready for installation. The existing substation will be removed once supply is commissioned. Block work on two accommodation wings is well underway. Work is also due to start on the central building.

Construction work by MJ McBride Contractors, Draperstown, is expected to complete circa January 2017.

The site is being developed by Choice Housing Ireland Ltd., in conjunction with the Northern Trust and NIHE (Supporting People).
