Life after Suicide Workshop in Toomebrige

On Saturday 16th September, 60 people attended the ‘Life after Suicide’ workshop in the Elk Hotel, Toomebrige. The workshop coincided with National Suicide Prevention Month and was organised by the Northern Trust to bring together practitioners and families who have lost loved ones to suicide or who support people bereaved by suicide.

The event was a huge success for the Northern Trust and Bereaved by Suicide Service as their aim is to support communities to work together to help each other through their bereavement journey. One of the key speakers on the day was Conor McCafferty, Director of Zest Healing the Hurt Organisation in Derry City.

Danielle Gallagher, Bereaved by Suicide Service Support Officer said “The event was an opportunity for professionals to hear how to support clients bereaved by suicide and for clients to share their story and talk about the needs they have in the aftermath of a death by suicide. We are delighted to have Conor Mc Cafferty delivering the key message at this workshop as he provides hope and healing to those going through a traumatic bereavement through suicide”.

The Bereaved by Suicide service provides 1-1, group support and community events to help anyone bereaved by suicide within the NHSCT localities and who is over the age of 18. For more information please contact Danielle or David on 028 944 13544 or email Danielle.gallagher@northerntrust.hscni
