The Community Dental Service (CDS) provides screening and treatment for people who find it difficult to attend a family dentist. The CDS also undertakes Health Promotion and Public Health Functions and organises the Dental General Anaesthetic Service within the Causeway Area

The role of the social worker is to:

 | Encourage the pursuit of hobbies/interests and possibly arrange funding for extra tuition.

 | Work with them in preparation for independent living as they move towards adulthood. |

The Nutrition & Dietetics Service provides assessment, treatment and information for people on a wide range of nutrition related problems. Dieticians specialise in nutritional assessment which is used together with clinical information to prescribe appropriate dietary treatment. Diet is the cornerstone of treatment in many conditions such as diabetes, coeliac disease, malnutrition, renal and hepatic diseases and certain paediatric disorders. Their overall aim is to educate patients to make informed food choices required for the dietary management of their condition and ensure nutritional needs are met.

The Department offers a wide range of diagnostic services to the patient which are available to hospital Consultants, Physicians, GPs and Community Health Doctors including cases from the A&E Department. The centralised X-ray service provides 24 hour radiographic cover to all Departments and is also responsible for the mobile X-ray equipment including image intensifiers.
Interventional radiological techniques are also carried out with biopsies under fluoroscopic, Ultrasound and CT control being performed.

Tissue Viability
|
The Tissue Viability Nurse provides clinical advice and education on the management of all types of wounds and tissue damage in adults and children. Referrals are accepted from all members of the multidisciplinary team and works in collaboration with them to provide evidence based care to patients with compromised tissue viability. At present she visits clients both in hospital and in their homes. However the service will be developed to provide wound care clinics across the Trust allowing the needs of a greater number of clients to be met.

Nurses apply dressings, give injections, remove stitches following surgery or day procedures, perform blood and urine tests and administer emergency aid if the GP is unavailable.
