Training courses

As well as providing mental health support across a wide variety of services within the community and in our hospital facilities, the Trust also runs a number of mental health training events throughout the year.

These free training and awareness days are offered across the Northern Trust locality through the Mental Health /Suicide Prevention partnership work funded by the Public Health Agency.

Some of the various training offered includes:

Bounce – 1 full day training

This training is for those working with young people and is about developing resilience. It includes activities and info around mental health, sexual health, drugs and alcohol.

CRUSE Training – 1 full day training

This training provides participants with an introduction to bereavement, which includes the impact of bereavement, phases of grief and the factors affecting grief.

Mental Health First Aid – 2 full days training

This training is based on the help provided to a person developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis until appropriate professional treatment is received or the crisis is resolved. Participants will be able to recognise the symptoms of mental health problems, gain an awareness of how to provide initial help and how to guide people to appropriate help.

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training – 2 full days training

This course aims to help participants to feel more confident and competent when dealing with a person who is at risk of suicide. Participants will learn how to recognise and estimate risk and explore how to intervene to prevent immediate risk of suicide using an internationally recognised model.

safeTALK – 3 to 5 hours approximately

This course prepares participants to identify persons with thoughts of suicide, provide initial help to keep them safe and connect them to suicide first aid/support resources. This course helps to build knowledge and skills aimed at increasing participant’s confidence to talk to people about their thoughts around suicide.
