Travel

It is important to look after your sexual health both at home and abroad. Taking risks can lead to Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). It is important to ensure you use condoms properly. This will reduce the likelihood of an STI developing or the transmission of HIV.

There are a number of popular holiday destinations across the world who have higher prevalence rates of HIV than we do in the UK. It only takes one partner in order to contract an STI including HIV.

If you think that you have put yourself at risk it is very important to have a full STI screening as soon as possible. Some infections have a different window period (the time it takes for the infection to show up in a test) but if you go to a GUM/Sexual Health clinic they can advise, test and support you through this process.
