No smoking day

This week includes No Smoking Day (Wed 14 March) and the theme is ‘Be proud to be a quitter.’ To raise awareness of the help available for quitting smoking and of the Northern Trust's smoke free policy, we are running a Colouring Competition for primary school children until 2 April 2018.  What better time to seriously consider quitting, for your health as well as that of our children. Be proud of yourself and quit for good!

With support, smokers are more likely to succeed in quitting. Visit Want2stop.info for more information on the free help available.

Five top tips to help you quit smoking:

  • Make a date to give up – and stick to it!
  • Make a plan. Think about what could help you stop smoking, such as using a nicotine-replacement product, and have it ready before the date you plan to stop
  • Get support from your local stop smoking service. Also, let your family and friends know that you're quitting.
  • Some people find that talking to friends and relatives who have stopped can be helpful
  • Keep busy to help take your mind off cigarettes. Try to change your routine, and avoid the shop where you normally buy cigarettes
  • Treat yourself. If you can, use the money you're saving by not smoking to buy yourself something special.

Remember the Northern Trust is Smoke Free every day not just No Smoking Day! This means smoking and e-cigarette use is not allowed on ANY Trust site including at our hospital doorways, behind buildings and in cars parked in our car parks.
