Obesity

Currently in Northern Ireland 60 percent of the adult population are overweight and obese, with 25 percent classed as obese. This can lead to serious health problems such as coronary heart disease, stroke, some cancers, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, mental health issues such as depression and complications in pregnancy.

Within the Northern Trust area 23 percent of primary school children in Year 1 are overweight and obese.  The numbers of obese children in Year 8 are almost double the Northern Ireland average at almost 14 percent.

Following a healthy balanced diet and living an active lifestyle will help you maintain a healthy body weight.
