A new purpose-built Day Surgery Unit has now opened at Antrim Area Hospital. The new £1.28m unit which has state-of-the-art equipment went operational on Monday 14th. April. This means more patients will be treated than previously. The unit has a laminar flow theatre, which will allow orthopaedic surgery to be carried out in an ultra clean environment. The better quality of air and airflow allow such procedures to be done. Speaking about their first day, Stephanie Greenwood, General Manager, Theatres, said “We are delighted with the new unit and everyone involved in the completion of it must be congratulated. “Our first day went very smoothly with patients and visitors enjoying a high quality experience in the new surroundings.” The new unit will have an official opening later this year.
