Rapid Access Department for Assessment and Rehabilitation of Older People (RADAR)

The Rapid Access Department based at Whiteabbey Hospital specialises in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of medical conditions in patients who are over 65 years of age and who reside in the Newtownabbey and Carrickfergus catchment areas.

This service is led by consultants supported by doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, social workers and occupational therapists.

A wide variety of conditions are addressed, in particular, falls, stroke, Transient Ischaemic Attacks, hypertension, Parkinson's Disease and general deterioration.

At RADAR, patients benefit from onsite therapist assessment and treatment started on the same day after proper assessment and diagnosis assessment is comprehensive and involves investigations, treatment initiation and follow up if neccessary.

Referrals

Referrals to the service can be made by GPs, emergency departments or any health and social care professional, using the Referral Proforma for the Whiteabbey Hospital Day Rehabilitation Unit.
