Prescribing Support Dietetic Team

Managing malnutrition together

Malnutrition is a major cause of poor health. One in 10 people over the age of 65 in the UK are malnourished or at risk of malnutrition. If left untreated, it can lead to health problems such as increased risk of infection, poor wound healing and other complications.  This can result in more frequent visits to the GP or hospital admissions.

The Prescribing Support Dietetic Team works directly with GPs, pharmacists, nursing and residential care homes across Northern Ireland to identify and treat malnutrition in adults.

The team will identify patients within general practice who are prescribed oral nutritional supplements but who are not under the care of a dietitian. They will undertake a nutritional assessment and provide tailored dietary advice.

We strive to support people by giving them information and tools to help improve their nutritional care.
