Paediatric Medical Services

Acute Paediatric Medical Services are provided at three hospital sites in the Northern Trust:

Causeway Hospital Site

24 hour inpatient paediatric services (13 beds)
Paediatric Accident and Emergency Services
Stabilisation and transfer of sick newborn babies
Assessment of urgent GP referrals
Paediatric general outpatient services
Paediatric dietetic outpatient services
Paediatric diabetic services
Paediatric cardiology outreach clinic
Paediatric elective surgery
Paediatric endoscopy
Paediatric neurology outreach clinic (suspended)

Antrim Area Hospital Site

24 hour inpatient paediatric services (26 beds)
24 hour paediatric infectious diseases services
Paediatric Accident and Emergency Services
Neonatal Services (16 beds)
Assessment of urgent GP referrals
Paediatric elective surgery
Paediatric general outpatient services
Paediatric dietetic outpatient services
Paediatric diabetic services
Paediatric cardiology outreach clinic
Emergency neonatal cardiology telemedicine link service

Mid Ulster Hospital Site

Paediatric ambulatory services
Paediatric general outpatient services
Paediatric allergy services

Community Paediatric Medical Service

A range of community services are provided including pre-school and school age assessment and management of developmental delay and disability, behavioural disorders, medical assessment of child abuse and a autism diagnostic service. Clinics are held in a range of locations throughout the Trust.

Medical input is provided to the School Health Service and multi-disciplinary Child Development Clinics. Services are provided for pre-adoption medical assessments and some children looked after by the Trust.

The service is available throughout the Trust from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday – Friday although some child protection assessments are provided in emergency situation out of hours.
