Paediatric Epilepsy Nurse Specialist

The Paediatric Epilepsy Nurse Specialist (PENS) has the lead responsibility for providing specialist nursing skills, knowledge and expertise in the care and management of children and adolescents with epilepsy. The Paediatric Epilepsy Nurse Specialist works closely with the medical team, hospital and community teams and other allied health professionals to provide expert nursing interventions and support to children with epilepsy and their families. The PENS promotes child focused family-centred care and acts as a resource for healthcare professionals involved with children with epilepsy.

Paediatric Discharge/Transitions Coordinator

The Paediatric Discharge/Transitions Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all discharges and transitions for children with complex health needs. This includes the transition of children from hospital to home, home to school and from childrens to adult services. The Paediatric Discharge/Transitions Coordinator is responsible for developing partnership approaches with Disability Social Work Teams, medical and allied health professions and pursuing networking opportunities across professional, organizational boundaries and with voluntary bodies.

Paediatric Clinical Educator

The Paediatric Clinical Educator leads in supporting the training and continuous professional development needs of a skill mix of nursing staff working with children with complex health needs in home, school and residential settings. This includes being responsible for establishing multi-disciplinary networks to identify and manage unmet training needs for carers supporting children with complex health needs across the nursing allied health and social care programmes of care in a range of settings.

Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse

The Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse (PDSN) has the lead responsibility for providing specialist nursing skills, knowledge and expertise in the area and management of children and adolescents with diabetes. The PDSN works closely with the medical team, hospital and community nurses and other allied health professionals to provide expert nursing interventions and support to children with diabetes and their families. The PDSN promotes child focussed family centred care and acts as a resource for healthcare professionals involved with children with diabetes.

Paediatric Clinical Governance Nurse

The Paediatric Clinical Governance Nurse has responsibility for the clinical governance and risk management strategy in the Children’s Nursing Service.  This includes leading and supporting staff in establishing a clear, strong focus on patient safety and quality of care throughout the service.

Neonatal Clinical Educator

The Neonatal Clinical Educator leads in supporting the training and continuous professional development of needs of staff working with neonates and their families in the Neonatal Unit. This includes being responsible for establishing and participating in multi-disciplinary networks across the region.

Paediatric Asthma and Allergies Nurse Specialist

The Paediatric Asthma & Allergies Specialist Nurse (PANS) has the lead responsibility for providing specialist nursing skills, knowledge and expertise in the care and management of children and adolescents with Asthma and Allergies. The PANS works closely with medical staff and also provides a Nurse led service to children and adolescents aiming to reduce presentation to ED and admission to acute services. The PANS supports the education of nursing staff in the acute and community settings. The PANS is responsible for participating in multi- disciplinary networks.
