Tissue Viability Nurse Specialist Service

The Tissue Viability Nurse Specialist Service (TVNS) is a nurse led service. The service operates Monday to Friday, 9 am – 5 pm, with no cover at weekend or bank holidays.

The service provides evidence based advice and support to clinicians, about complex and chronic wounds. It operates in the following clinical settings:

  • Hospitals
  • Community
  • Leg ulcer clinics
  • Private nursing and residential Units

Tissue viability nurses work with a wide and varied range of professionals such as hospital consultants; General Practitioners, community nurses, district nurses, paediatric nurses, midwives and learning disability nurses. Due to the varied professionals involved, the patient age range is also varied and wide.

The service is actively involved in providing education to a number of health care professionals on wound assessment, pressure ulcer prevention, dressing selection and leg ulcer assessment. The Service also develops policy documents on wound care issues.
