Skin care patient support and information evenings
Long term, recurrent, inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis affect many people in our community. They can often have a significant impact on the daily life of suffers and may be difficult to cope with physically and mentally. There may be times when suffers have no symptoms or very mild symptoms, followed by times when the symptoms are severe. The Northern Health and Social Care Trust is helping to set up a new support group for people affect by these conditions – ‘Skin Matters Causeway’.
Jennifer Fenn and Violet McAfee approached the Trust to request help in setting up a support group for local patients who suffer from a long term skin conditions. David Todd, Consultant Dermatologist, Linda Millar, General Manager Surgery, Endoscopy & Gastroenterology, Madonna Moran, ICATS Nurse Specialist are now working with Jennifer and Violet to promote the needs of local patients who suffer from a long term skin conditions.
The group’s first project will be a series of patient support and information evenings on each Thursday in February 2013. The Trust welcomes attendance from anyone in the local area who suffers from a long term skin condition such as eczema or psoriasis.
These evening sessions will cover a range of topics, including understanding and caring for your skin condition and managing the psychological effects of living with a chronic skin disease.
The final evening will focus on a discussion sessions to provide people with the opportunity to ask questions and give their ideas for future support programmes.
The sessions will be held from 7.30pm – 8.30pm on the 7, 14, 21 and 28 February 2013 in the Multi Disciplinary Education Centre, Causeway Hospital
