Enabling works ended at Braid Valley Hospital

The Northern Trust would like to thank patients, visitors and staff for their patience and understanding during the recent enabling works which took place on the Braid Valley site in preparation for the building of the new Health and Care Centre.

The new £25million health and care centre will improve the provision and delivery of health and social care services to people in Ballymena and throughout the Trust area.

Alison Renfrew, Assistant Director of Capital Development in the Northern Trust said,

“The enabling works allowed the Trust to prepare the north of the Braid valley site for the building of the new health and care centre.

“The work included refurbishing the old Braid Valley hospital to allow for the transfer of a number of departments from their current facilities on site including audiology, outpatients 2, physiotherapy, medical records and the X-ray department. The Ambulance depot was also moved into the old Laundry.

“The buildings which housed these services have now been demolished allowing a new car park to be created in preparation for the actual construction phase of the project.

“The new health and care centre will bring together acute and community based services in a modern accessible one stop facility. The centre will also house the out of hours Dalriada Doctor urgent care service”.

By providing services in one area in the community closer to where people live they will be able to live independently for longer in their own homes and reduce unnecessary hospitalisation as outlined in the Transforming Your Care report. Local access to health care will help to promote good health, improve chronic disease management and allow for early diagnosis and treatment of conditions.
