Northern Trust nurse receives prestigious Queens Nursing Award
Sadie Campbell, a district nurse in the Northern Health and Social Care Trust has become only the second nurse in Northern Ireland to receive the Queens Nursing Award. Sadie, who lives in Ardboe, received the award from the Queens Nursing Institute at a Spring Awards Ceremony in London. She was awarded this prestigious title because of the ground-breaking work that she has been undertaking within nursing in the care of frail older people, chronic disease management and end of life care for these patients.
Every year the QNI infers the title of Queens Nurse to specially chosen nurses working in a primary/community setting. The title ‘Queen’s Nurse’ is only awarded to nurses who have demonstrated a commitment to high standards of patient care, learning and leadership. It aims to recognise community nurses who show their dedication to the development of their professional skills and whom promote the highest standards of patient care.
Olive MacLeod, Director of Nursing and User Experience in the Northern Health and Social Care Trust congratulated Sadie on her award saying:
“Sadie’s success really demonstrates how community nurses, who are already so very busy, take on extra work and responsibility for the benefit of their patients. The Queens Nurse title is a great tribute to Sadie for her hard work, passion and determination. On behalf of the Northern Health & Social Care Trust I would like to congratulate Sadie on her great achievement.”
Nationally, Queens Nursing recipients have been in demand from a number of organisations including the Department of Health, for their expertise in and commitment to community nursing.
Sadie was delighted to have received the award: “The Queens Nurse award is based on patient and carer stories about my clinical role that are sent with the application. The forms are then anonomised and a panel make the decision based on the patient information given. I am really honoured that I have been chosen as my patients have been through so much in their lives living with one or more advanced chronic diseases. I will be dedicating this award to the community nurses in the Magherafelt integrated team who are my colleagues and who give so much of themselves to help the people they care for- it’s really for them”.
The Queen’s Nurses were presented with their badges and certificates by Jane Cummings, Chief Nursing Officer in England.
