Good morning scheme test new telecare technology

The Northern Trust recently hosted a Telecare awareness session for Good Morning East Antrim Staff (GMEA) to make them aware of the technology available to help older and vulnerable people remain safely at home.

Good Morning is a free, community based telephone support service which provides daily phone calls, alerting others if a call is not answered and giving peace of mind to service users and their families.

Good Morning staff were keen to learn more about what technology is available through Telecare to support the people they come into contact with on a daily basis.

In addition to the telephone support offered, the service enables users to share worries and concerns and connects them with local community activities and services.

Staff had the opportunity to try out the different technologies including the personal trigger pendants which enable a call for help to be raised anywhere in the home or garden. They also tested the movement detector which can detect a lack of movement indicating a person may be unwell or have fallen or can alert when a person moves into a dangerous area. This allowed staff the opportunity to understand exactly how the technologies worked and means when they become aware of issues service users may have, they will know what technologies are available and how to arrange this for them.

The range of unobtrusive intelligent telecare sensors offer a comprehensive way to manage the risk to a person’s health and home environment, 24 hours a day,365 days a year.

Telecare is one of a range of tools available to service users to promote home safety, personal security and independence within their own homes as part of Transforming Your Care.
