Haematology project wins all Ireland award
Trust haematology initiative which aims to reduce patient waiting times has won the best Nursing and Allied Health Professional poster award at the Haematology Association of Ireland conference. The initiative involves telephone assessment and nurse authorisation of an anti cancer drug (BortezomibI).
The new nurse led initiative was evaluated from service users as well as the medical and nursing team by conducting satisfaction surveys.
Feedback has highlighted better patient experience as waiting times have been significantly reduced by at least 90 minutes per visit. It has also reduced pressure on consultant clinics and facilitated a more holistic, person centred approach to assessment.
