Causeway Hospital marks Emergency Department target waiting time success
Staff at the Causeway Hospital are celebrating after achieving the significant milestone of having no 12-hour waiting time breaches in the Emergency Department over the past two years.
As one of two acute hospitals in the Northern Health and Social Care Trust, Causeway Hospital, which was opened in 2001, offers a range of services including a busy 24 hour Emergency Department. Over 40,000 people present at the Emergency Department every year.
Commenting on the waiting time target achievement, Mr Fred Mullan, Divisional Medical Director and Consultant Surgeon at Causeway Hospital praised the entire hospital team for the success:
“We have a wonderful team here at Causeway and it is entirely thanks to the dedication and commitment of every person in that team that we have seen continuing improvement year on year in waiting times. To be able to report that over the past two years we have assessed, treated and either discharged or admitted all patients from the Emergency Department in less than 12 hours reflects truly integrated, multi-disciplinary working in practice and my thanks go to everyone involved.”
The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Council Borough Council, Councillor Michelle Knight-McQuillan was invited to meet staff and tour the Emergency Department. Speaking after the tour the Mayor said:
“I’d like to congratulate the team at Causeway Hospital on their hard work and dedication to providing timely and professional care to the Borough’s residents. The team’s achievement of no 12-hour waiting time breaches in the Emergency Department for a second year running is to be commended. On behalf of the residents and visitors to Causeway Coast and Glens, I thank you.’
The Mayor was joined by members of the Causeway Hospital Campaign Group, two of whom, Owen Finnegan and Paul Gilmore, are retired doctors who formerly worked at the hospital and who retain a keen interest in its operation and development.
