Chartered society physiotherapists celebrates 21 years of welcoming members to professional body

On 18 November the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) in Northern Ireland celebrated an important milestone. This year marks the 21st anniversary of the society welcoming individuals (or helpers as they were originally called), as members of the professional body. Offering the benefits of CSP membership to our associates recognised the vital role they play in delivering quality treatment to patients and clients. That sentiment is echoed today and is highlighted by this evening’s event.

Not only do physiotherapy assistant and associate staff provide patient care as part of teams in a wide range of settings, but they are increasingly taking more independent and varied roles. This is possible because of the education and training they have taken up to develop their knowledge and skills. During the event, speeches were made by Catherine Smith (CSP Associate Officer), Jackie Brown (Chair of the Associate Committee), Tara Davison (AHP Peripatetic Assessor and Internal Quality Assurer) and several assistant staff from across the five trusts in Northern Ireland, who shared their experiences of extending their own roles.

As well as the speeches, invited guests had time to meet their peers and engage in conversation with Trust Professional Leads and Allied Health Professional representatives. The enthusiasm and high attendance numbers at the event is a credit to the individuals working as Physiotherapy Assistants, and the CSP was delighted to recognise and reward them as part of our team.
