Walking for Health Festival: 13-19 June

The Northern Walking for Health Festival takes places from 13-19 June to celebrate 15 years of walking within the Northern Trust area.

The Walking for Health Programme is celebrating 15 years of walking within the Northern Trust area. This programme aims to encourage people to improve their health and wellbeing by participating in short community walks led mainly by volunteers.

Since being established in 2001 approximately 50 new walking groups have been established and over 500 people trained as Walk Leaders.

Regular walking at a brisk pace can:

–  Make you feel good
–  Give you more energy
–  Reduce stress and help you sleep better
–  Keep your heart ‘strong’ and reduce blood pressure
–  Help to manage your weight
–  Reduce the risk of heart disease
–  Reduce the risk of a number of cancers, particularly bowel and breast cancer
–  Reduce the risk of type II diabetes
–  Improve your mood and reduces the risk of depression
