Brain Injury Service Earns Three-Year International Accreditation

06 August 2018

The Northern Trust Brain Injury Service has received international accreditation for its work in providing rehabilitation services for those who have suffered brain injuries.

The accreditation by CARF International will be for a period of three years and specifically relates to the Trust’s Home and Community Services: Brain Injury Specialty (Adults and Adolescents). This is the first accreditation that CARF has given to the Northern Health and Social Care Trust and is the only CARF-accredited service in Northern Ireland.

This accreditation decision represents the highest level of accreditation that can be given to an organisation and shows the Trust’s substantial conformance to the CARF standards. Any organisation receiving a Three-Year Accreditation has put itself through a rigorous peer review process. It has demonstrated to a team of surveyors during an on-site visit, its commitment to offering programmes and services that are measurable, accountable, and of the highest quality.

Commenting, Dr Robert Rauch, Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist and Service Manager of the Northern Trust Brain Injury Service said:

“By achieving CARF accreditation, the Northern Trust Brain Injury Service has demonstrated that it meets international standards for quality and is committed to pursuing excellence. This accreditation decision reflects our sustained and committed team approach to placing services users and their families at the centre of high quality rehabilitation services.”

Founded in 1966 as the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, and now known as CARF International, CARF is an independent, nonprofit accrediting body whose mission is to promote the quality, value, and optimal outcomes of services through a consultative accreditation process and continuous improvement services that centre on enhancing the lives of the persons served. It establishes consumer-focused standards to help organisations to measure and improve the quality of their programs and services. For more information about the accreditation process, please visit the CARF website at
