Gerard McGivern, Non-Executive Director

Gerard McGivern is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin, and also holds an MSc in Local Economic Development from the University of Glasgow. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and is the first person on the island of Ireland to be elected fellow to the Institute of Economic Development. He was the founding manager of Banbridge Enterprise Centre and in the 1990s established the Development Directorate at Banbridge District Council, with responsibility for economic development, tourism and corporate marketing. He served as Director of District Development with Newry and Mourne District Council, with responsibility for economic development and tourism, community, sports, recreation and arts development, Irish language, Ulster Scots and museum services from 2000 to 2015.During this period Gerard also pioneered a series of cross border economic development initiatives which culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Newry and Mourne District Council and Louth Local Authorities in 2011.

A former member of Warrenpoint Harbour Authority, Gerard is currently Chairman of the Livestock and Meat Commission NI. He is also Company Secretary of Banbridge District Enterprises Ltd and Club Secretary of Camlough and District Old Vehicle Club.
