Complementary Therapies

Some people with cancer may consider using complementary therapy in addition to standard cancer treatment when it has been discussed with and approved by the team.

We are now offering a guided relaxation service by telephone.

What is relaxation / guided meditation?

These are techniques used to aid relaxation, relieve stress and tension, aid sleep and reduce feelings of anxiety. Due to the current covid-19 precautions this service will take place over the telephone. Sessions normally last between 20-30 minutes, however, this can be tailored to suit you.

Why would I benefit from this?

You may particularly benefit if you:

  • are newly diagnosed and/or awaiting treatment
  • need support to help you complete treatment
  • need support once your treatment has been completed

What preparation do I need to make?

Try to find a quiet space where you are unlikely to be disturbed. You may also wish to have soothing music in the background however this is not necessary.

How do I get referred to this service?

There is a written referral form that a member of staff in Laurel House will go through with you. The complementary therapist will then contact you via telephone to arrange a suitable date and time.

If you are not due to attend Laurel House but would like to avail of this service please ring Laurel House where a nurse who will make arrangements for you over the telephone.
