Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (Step 3)
Specialist CAMHS (Step 3) work with children, young people and their families who are experiencing moderate to severe mental health difficulties that have a significant impact on their day to day life. This service aims to provide high quality, evidence-based assessment, support and intervention by working collaboratively with the young person, their family/carers.
We are a community-based and multi-disciplinary service, staffed by trained professionals who have expertise in working with children, young people and their families with a range of difficulties.
Throughout a young person’s journey through Specialist CAMHS (Step 3), the young person may meet various different professionals including:
- Social workers
- Nurses
- Clinical Psychologists
- Psychiatrists
- Occupational Therapists
- Psychodynamic Psychotherapists
- Family therapists
- CBT therapists
All professionals within Specialist CAMHS work closely together as a multidisciplinary team to ensure that your child receives the most appropriate support and intervention.
Young people who are referred to our service will be seen for an initial appointment (CHOICE appointment) so we can get a shared understanding of the difficulties that they are currently experiencing. At this appointment we will discuss and collaboratively agree an appropriate plan. This plan can include ongoing intervention within step 3 Specialist CAMHS, ongoing intervention provided by our colleagues in Children’s Early Interventions Service (CEIS) , onward referral to a related service, a voluntary organisation or discharge from the service.”
Deaf CAMHS
We also gave staff available to offer a Deaf CAMHS service for young people who experience hearing difficulties.
