Crisis Team (Step 3 CAMHS)

The Crisis Resolution Team will offer a rapid assessment to referrals, and if appropriate, will follow up with an intensive, proactive, time limited approach to engagement with young people and their families  who would benefit from treatment in the community.  This includes risk assessment and management, as well as offering a community alternative to inpatient assessment and treatment.

The Crisis Team will accept referrals for children and adolescents up to the age of 18 who reside within the Northern Trust area.

It is difficult to give a specific, exhaustive list of the problems and concerns appropriate for referral, although those outlined below are examples of the more commonly occurring referral problems:

  • Serious threats of self-harm or actual self-harm
  • Acute psychotic symptoms
  • Severe and acute phobia/anxiety/ depression/mood disorder
  • Acute suicidal risk

Any young person up to the age of 18 who presents at Antrim Area Hospital or Causeway Hospital during clinic hours requiring a mental health crisis assessment, will be offered an emergency appointment by the Crisis Resolution Team.

Outside of clinic hours, referrals will be triaged by the Mental Health Liaison Team and referred onwards to our service for assessment and intervention.

The Crisis Resolution Team offers assessment for young people with difficulties requiring urgent assessment.
