Rheumatology Podiatry
There are over 100 recognised medically diagnosed conditions that are included in the category of rheumatology, however the most commonly treated conditions include:
- Rheumatoid Arthritis
- Ankylosing Spondylitis
- Psoriatic Arthritis
- Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
The podiatry service aims to increase the service users’ knowledge of their condition and provide self-management advice and exercises that are specific to their problem. If specialist podiatric advice is required, podiatry staff and service users have access to the specialist podiatrist who will provide this.
The rheumatology specialist podiatrist provides assessment, treatment and self-management advice for all rheumatology conditions in the community setting. This applies for all stages of rheumatic conditions from newly diagnosed to patients with long standing problems.
The rheumatology specialist podiatrist works closely with medical staff, specialist nurses, pharmacists, AHPs and community podiatry teams to provide a high quality multidisciplinary approach to service user care. This collective approach to service user care allows for service user specific treatment and advice to be delivered locally and does not necessarily require service users to travel to Ballymena Health and Care Centre to avail of this.
