Woodlands Wellness Hub

Woodlands Wellness Hub (formerly Whiteabbey Psychiatric Day Hospital) offers services to people aged 18-65 (and functional people over 65) living in the Larne, Carrickfergus and Newtownabbey areas.

The service takes an approach of engaging service users and enabling them to take personal responsibility and to show that it is possible to regain full control over their lives despite living with symptoms of mental ill-health. The aim is to deliver programmes that are recovery focused to individuals who have mild to moderate and severe mental health problems. Putting recovery into action means building the resilience of people with mental health problems not just treating or managing their symptoms.

Services offered include 8-12 week programmes such as anxiety management, coping with depression, coping with voices, mind over mood, behaviour activation, anger management, self-esteem and WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Planning). Service are also offered to help with early discharge from hospital and to prevent admission to hospital. There are also plans to work with the Early Intervention Team and Psychology.

As part of the recovery approach, social evenings are held every fortnight from 6.30pm to 8.30pm in the Woodlands Wellness Hub at Whiteabbey Hospital. The evenings provide those living with mental health issues the opportunity to talk and gain support from other people who are going through the same issues. These are run by the service users and staff are there to facilitate use of the building.
