Margaret McKinnell Framed letter

A very special event has taken place in honour of long-serving nurse Margaret McKinnell.

Known as Marjorie, she has devoted her life to the profession in a career spanning almost six decades.

Retiring from the role after 59 years, she hasn’t stepped away completely but instead, continues to work as a healthcare assistant at Whiteabbey Hospital.

Befitting of her exemplary service, Margaret recently received a letter of commendation from Maria Mcllgorm, Chief Nursing Officer in Northern Ireland.

Friends, colleagues and family members joined the celebrations to thank her for her enduring commitment to caring for those in need.

Northern Health and Social Care Trust Director of Medicine and Emergency Medicine Audrey Harris, who presented the framed letter, said: “It was an honour for all of us to join Marjorie and her family to celebrate and reflect on her amazing career.

“She has cared for countless patients, and been a wonderful colleague and mentor to all those who have been fortunate to work with her through the years.

“This recognition is richly deserved, and I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to Marjorie for her expertise and dedication to nursing which we have all benefited from.”
