Northern Trust staff celebrate great success at Nurse of the Year Awards

Six nurses from the Northern Health and Social Care Trust were among the winners at this year’s RCN Northern Ireland Nurse of the Year Awards.

The prestigious annual event celebrates nursing excellence and Northern Trust staff were represented in four different categories.

Caroline Diamond, Assistant Director of Women’s Services and Head of Midwifery was crowned with the Director of Nursing Award.  Caroline was recognised for her role in transforming maternity services within the Northern Trust.

Lisa Cassidy and Lynda Cox, Clinical Nurse Specialists represented our Hospital Specialist Palliative Care Team who were joint winners of the Palliative Care Nursing Award.  This dedicated Team provides specialist palliative care and support to patients and their loved ones during an extremely difficult and uncertain times in their lives.

Cathal Bradley, who manages the Stroke Unit at Antrim Area Hospital picked up joint winner of the Team Manager Award.  Cahal has lead his team to improve patient safety and care standards by reducing in-patient falls whilst creating an environment of clinical excellence ensuring high standards of patient-centred care.

Lisa Lyons and Kerrie Sweeny were crowned winners of the Cancer Nurse Award.  Lisa and Kerrie were recognised for the Nurse-led clinics they provide to ease pressure on the system, reducing time spent on waiting lists and dramatically improving the patient experience.

“Our nursing staff are dedicated to the care of our patients and service users and continue to deliver high quality, innovative care and demonstrate leadership in the face of sustained pressure on our health service.
