The Northern Region Recovery College is now seeking new volunteers to support its work around health and wellbeing.

The college plays a key role in enhancing the mental health and emotional wellbeing of participants by encouraging individual recovery, wellness, empowerment, progress and life-long learning through free educational workshops.

With an ethos that everyone is welcome and we all have much to learn from each other, the college’s relaxed, fun and informative sessions are all delivered by experienced peer recovery trainers (lived experience) alongside professional staff (learned experience) in both community venues across the area and from its base at Holywell Hospital.

To support this work, the college is now seeking to expand its team of client peer support volunteers and service support volunteers.

Explaining more, Janice Gray, the Recovery College manager, said: “The Recovery College offers those who have lived experience, carers, staff and members of the public an opportunity to learn from each other and to develop skills to manage or begin their own recovery journey.

“Client peer support volunteers will support the work of the college in community venues, and alongside some practical tasks the role will include sharing lived experiences of attending college courses, and using these conversations to offer companionship and build confidence.

“The service support volunteer role is different in that volunteers will be required at the college’s offices at Holywell Hospital as well as community venues. The role is designed to support staff with tasks like creating student packs and attending health fairs with the wider team to promote the work of the college within local communities.”
