Trust launches counselling service for unpaid family carers

The Northern Trust is now working with A Safe Space To Be Me Emotional Wellbeing Hub to offer a pilot wellbeing and counselling service for unpaid family carers.

We know that carers face high levels of fatigue and stress, with many stating they feel exhausted and worn out because of their role.

If this sounds familiar ask your named worker about making a referral – accessing this kind of emotional support could make a big difference to you.

Appointments can be in-person or online – they’ll last for 50 minutes with each participant offered six sessions altogether.

The pilot will run until March 2026 and follows on from long-standing partnership work with unpaid carers through our Carer Pathway Steering Group and Carer Listening Forum.

Many thanks to all carers and staff who have worked together to make this initiative possible.

One of our carers has said: “Counselling is not just for emergencies.  When life gets tough and I need a space to vent, having a dedicated, understanding service for carers to work through emotions, will be so beneficial.”

If you have any queries, or you’re not sure about eligibility, you can contact our Carer Hub by ringing 028 2766 1210 or email carer.hub@northerntrust.hscni.net
