Celebrating World Pharmacists Day
The Northern Health and Social Care Trust is marking World Pharmacists Day by celebrating the vital contribution of pharmacists and the wider pharmacy team.
This year’s theme, ‘think health, think pharmacist’, set by the International Pharmaceutical Federation, highlights the central role pharmacists play in improving health and wellbeing.
Within the Northern Trust, this is reflected every day in hospital pharmacy practice, where pharmacists work across acute and community hospitals, in primary care and across a wide range of specialties. Their expertise, problem-solving, and collaborative approach ensure medicines are used safely and effectively, supporting patients and colleagues alike.
Northern Trust Chief Executive Jennifer Welsh said: “World Pharmacists Day gives us a great opportunity to shine a spotlight on our Team North pharmacy colleagues who play a vital role in supporting staff to ensure the safe and effective use of medicine for our patients and service users.
“As valued members of our team, they have an important leadership role, ensuring medicines are available on time, collaborating with clinicians to optimise treatment plans, and providing expert clinical advice to support patient care.
“I want to put on record my appreciation for the enormous contribution of our pharmacy colleagues, and I know that will be shared across our Trust.”
Deputy Medical Director, Mark Jenkins, added: “Pharmacists are brilliant. The clinical expertise of our pharmacists is respected and valued for their active role in keeping patients safe and preventing harm.”
Julia Tolan, Head of Pharmacy in the Northern Trust, said: “I am proud to recognise and thank our pharmacists and the wider pharmacy team for their dedication, professionalism and commitment to patient care.”
