The Roddens celebrates 55 years of compassionate care
A beloved Ballymoney care home proudly marked its 55th anniversary last month.
The milestone was made even more special with the return of the home’s very first care assistant, who joined residents, families, and staff to commemorate the occasion.
Opened in 1971 by Mrs HB Holmes, vice chairman of the Antrim county welfare committee, the Roddens has been a cornerstone of the community ever since.
Over the decades, the Roddens has adapted and evolved, and it is now the Northern Trust’s sole specialist delirium unit.
The anniversary event brought together past and present staff and enabled them to share their stories and memories of the past 55 years.
The highlight of the anniversary celebrations was the return of Beth Willis, who began working at the Roddens in 1971 as its first care assistant. Now aged 93, she reflected on her memories of working at the Roddens and the changes that have taken place over the years.
Philip Dawson, Manager at the Roddens, said: “Reaching 55 years is a remarkable achievement, and we are incredibly proud of our history. Welcoming back our very first care assistant made this celebration even more special. It’s a powerful reminder of the dedication and compassion that continue to define our home today.
“We were also delighted to welcome many of community partners to our celebrations, including Anne Paul and Georgie Blair (Friends of The Roddens group) and Harry Frizzel from the vintage club in Ballymoney.”
As the Roddens looks to the future, it remains committed to innovation in care while keeping the warmth and community spirit of the last 55 years.
