What do you know about Living Donation?

An impression of a hand and a kidney

It’s Living Donation Week – a time to learn more about the incredible impact that living donation has on people’s lives.

Right now, over 6000 people are waiting for a life-saving kidney transplant in the UK, with almost 90 in NI.

The average wait for a kidney transplant from a deceased donor is around three years. For some people from minority ethnic groups and people with rare tissue types the wait can be even longer.

For many patients in need of a kidney transplant, the best outcome for their transplant will be from a living donor.

Most living kidney donors will donate a kidney to someone they know.

If you want to donate to someone you don’t know, you could donate through the UK Living Kidney Sharing Scheme and you would be matched to someone in need of a transplant.

Could you help someone receive the organ they need?

Consider becoming a living donor and discover the difference you could make.
