Medical laboratory standards and accreditation
The Northern Trust Laboratory Service provides a wide range of routine and specialist services from Antrim Area and Causeway Hospitals for General Practitioners (GPs) and hospitals within the Northern area.
Antrim Laboratory provides a routine and 24-hour emergency laboratory service for the hospitals and General Practitioners within the local catchment area. This service includes Microbiology, Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology and Blood Bank, Cellular and Molecular Pathology and Mortuary services.
Causeway laboratory provides a routine and 24-hour emergency laboratory service for the hospitals and General Practitioners within the local catchment area. This service includes Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology and Blood Bank. The Regional Bowel Cancer Screening Laboratory is located in the Causeway laboratory.
UKAS Accreditation
The laboratories actively engage with external inspection bodies; they are accredited with UKAS UK ltd, compliant with the Medicine and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency and licensed by the Human Tissue Authority. The quality of the service provided is assured by participation in National External Quality Assurance Schemes and rigorous internal quality control of all aspects of work.
