Orthopaedic Assessment Service
The Orthopaedic Assessment Service deals with referrals regarding musculoskeletal medicine (MSK) which is the diagnosis and treatment of problems arising from the musculoskeletal system. This includes injuries and diseases affecting the muscles, bones and joints of the limbs and spine. It also includes rarer autoimmune diseases and back pain.
The Orthopaedic Assessment Service is made up of GPs with Specialist Interest in Orthopaedics (GPSIs) and Advanced Practitioner Physiotherapists, and Advanced Practitioner Podiatrists. The service significantly reduces outpatient waiting times by referring to hospital only those patients who will benefit from seeing a consultant.
The service is based at Ballymena Health & Care Centre, McCaughey House at Whiteabbey Hospital, Mid Ulster Hospital, and Robinson Memorial Hospital, with clinics from 8am to 4:30pm..
