Physiotherapy Services
The Physiotherapy Service assesses and treats people of all ages with physical problems caused by illness, accident or ageing. The service is provided in both hospital and community settings.
Physiotherapists use skills in clinical measuring, manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, movement and electrotherapy to treat patients.
Domiciliary physiotherapy
Domiciliary physiotherapy is provided to patients living at home or in a residential or nursing home who are unable to travel to physiotherapy departments due to their physical condition/functional ability to attend an outpatient appointment.
Adults with a learning disability
We provide physiotherapy services as part of the multi-disciplinary Learning Disability team. The service is provided in Trust adult centres and community locations.
Physiotherapists will assess and treat associated physical impairments and conditions in Learning disability. Physiotherapy promotes activity and independence for adults who have a Learning Disability.
Mental health physiotherapy
We deliver physiotherapy services to people experiencing mental health problems. This service is provide at Holywell Hospital and Ross Thomson Unit (Causeway Hospital).
Physiotherapists will assess and treat physical health problems and encourage independence for service users in mental health services. Physiotherapy also run exercise programmes to encourage activity and aid mental health recovery.
Community rehabilitation
The Community Respiratory and Rehabilitation physiotherapy service work with people in the community. The Rehabilitation physiotherapy team is part of the recovery service.
The service is provided from different locations in the Trust:
- The patient’s own home
- Nursing and residential homes
- Community hospitals
Lymphoedema
Lymphoedema is a swelling that develops as a result of an impaired lymphatic system. Patients will be seen in the physiotherapy outpatients department which is closest to their home.
