Oesophageal and stomach cancer can be treated in a number of ways, or with a combination of surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Each person is different and your treatment will be tailored to suit your needs. Your specialist team will tell you about the benefits, risks and side-effects of the treatment being offered to you. Your treatment will be discussed fully with you before proceeding.
Surgery and radiotherapy will be provided in the Belfast City Hospital or Altnagelvin Hospital. Other treatments such as chemotherapy, the insertion of a stent and stretches of the oesophagus can be offered in the Northern Trust.
Follow up
Your healthcare team will arrange regular review appointments after you finish treatment. This will include assessments with your surgeon, oncologist or specialist nurse. You will be asked questions about your appetite, ability to swallow, energy levels and any symptoms/side effects that you may have following treatment.
