Our hospitals

The Northern Health and Social Care Trust provides emergency and specialist healthcare services from two major hospital sites – Antrim Area Hospital and Causeway Hospital, Coleraine.

We also deliver services from local community hospitals and provide specialist mental health care from Holywell Hospital in Antrim.

Emergency and urgent care services

Our emergency departments at Antrim Area Hospital and Causeway Hospital provide assessment, treatment and stabilisation for life‑threatening conditions and urgent illnesses.

Emergency services operate all day, every day.

Minor injuries units

We have minor injuries units at Antrim Area Hospital, Causeway Hospital, Coleraine and Mid Ulster Hospital, Magherafelt.

The units are staffed by emergency nurse practitioners who are experienced emergency department nurses with additional training in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of conditions.

The units treat injuries which are not critical or life-threatening. Opening times vary across sites.

Phone First Service

Our Phone First Service will help you get the right care, first time. The service helps patients with urgent, non‑life‑threatening conditions to access the right care without unnecessary waiting in an emergency department.

Our call handlers and clinical staff assess your needs and direct you to the most appropriate service, including scheduled urgent care appointments where suitable.
