We have two emergency departments.

How to contact us

For serious or life threatening illness or injury – call 999 or go to your nearest emergency department.

For urgent, non‑life‑threatening conditions, please use our Phone First Service to help you get the right care without unnecessary waiting in an emergency department. Phone First operates Monday to Friday, from 8:00am to 6:00pm, excluding bank holidays.

Direct assessment units

The Northern Trust also has two direct assessment units that provide same day acute care. Patients can be referred, diagnosed, treated and ideally discharged, all on the same day, which helps to prevent unnecessary attendances at the emergency departments, and hospital admissions. Patients can be referred to the direct assessment units by GPs, the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, and other hospital clinicians.
