Antrim Area Hospital’s Obstetrics and Gynaecology team has been recognised by UK-wide body for the quality of its obstetrics training and trainee experience.

The Northern Trust has been recognised in the 2026 Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) Trainee Evaluation Form (TEF) results, as being Highly commended in the Overall and Obstetrics category for Medium-sized hospitals.

The award celebrates excellence in postgraduate education and training, based on feedback from resident doctors. Through the TEF survey, trainees from across the UK provide detailed insights into the quality of supervision, learning opportunities, workplace culture, leadership, professional development and their overall training experience.

RCOG has said that this year’s results demonstrated marked improvements in the training environment at Antrim Area Hospital and recognised the department’s sustained efforts to create a positive and supportive experience for trainees.

Dr Laura McMorran, Obstetrics and Gynaecology Consultant and RCOG tutor in 2026, said: “Receiving recognition at the RCOG Training Excellence Framework Awards is a huge achievement and a reflection of the dedication, commitment and teamwork of everyone involved in supporting education and training within the unit.

“As doctors, we know how important it is to foster a strong training environment and it’s rewarding to see the hard work of so many people recognised.

“This award which compares our unit against 169 other units in the UK is something that we are all very proud of, and we’re looking forward to building on the significant progress we have already made.”

Recognising the achievement, interim Director of Surgery, Women’s Health and Diagnostic Services, Lynne McCartney said: “We are incredibly proud of the team and this wonderful recognition at the TEF Awards. This is a great achievement and is a testament to the commitment this team has to education and training.
