Rheumatology Occupational Therapy Service

Rheumatology Occupational Therapy helps people with conditions such as arthritis and other joint problems to manage everyday activities more easily.

Our aim is to help reduce pain and strain on your joints, maintain your independence, and improve your quality of life.

How we can help

An occupational therapist can provide advice and support to help you:

  • Protect your joints during everyday activities
  • Coping with pain, fatigue and low energy levels
  • Carry out daily tasks such as cooking, washing, dressing and driving
  • Maintain hand strength and movement through exercises
  • Learn relaxation techniques to help manage pain and fatigue

Equipment and support

If needed, we can provide:

  • Hand and wrist splints to help reduce pain and inflammation
  • Equipment to make daily activities easier and safer at home
  • Advice on using equipment in the bathroom, kitchen and on stairs

How to access the service

If you attend a Rheumatology Clinic

You can ask your consultant to refer you to the Rheumatology Occupational Therapy Service.

If you do not attend a Rheumatology Clinic

You will need a referral from your GP.

If you have used the service before

If you are already known to the Rheumatology Occupational Therapy Service and are having difficulties with everyday activities, you can contact your occupational therapist directly.
