After an autism diagnosis, we can offer follow-up support if needed. This includes post-diagnostic information sessions and other support tailored to the person.
Some support is available through:
Support from other services
Some autistic adults already receive support from services such as mental health, learning disability, physical health or sensory services. These services will continue to support them.
Our team can also give advice to professionals in these services to help make sure support is suitable for autistic people.
If someone is not currently supported by other services, the Adult Autism Service can provide support directly.
We also work with a range of organisations, including education, employment, housing, justice, leisure and voluntary groups, to support people’s needs.
A person-centred approach
We take a person-centred approach. This means we work closely with the individual (and their family or carers, if appropriate) to understand their needs and develop a support plan together.
If you already receive support from other services
If you have a key worker from another service, they will continue to coordinate your care.
The Adult Autism Service will provide advice and guidance to support your care plan. This may include helping to:
- build confidence
- develop independence
- learn life skills
- improve problem-solving
If you do not receive support from other services
If you are not involved with other services, we will work with you (and your family or carers, if appropriate) to create a support plan based on your needs.
Support focuses on:
- building confidence
- increasing independence
- developing life skills
- improving problem-solving
Our support is usually short-term, with the aim of helping you move forward independently.
