Residential care for adults

Residential care is for people who need a level of support that cannot be provided safely in their own home.

We always try to help people stay living at home for as long as possible. However, if this is no longer practical, Trust staff will carry out a full assessment involving different professionals. This helps us understand the person’s needs and support them, along with their carers, to choose the most suitable care option.

People living in residential care can still receive support from community services, such as district nursing and podiatry.

If someone’s needs increase and they require regular nursing care that community services cannot provide, they may need to move to a nursing home.

All Trust residential homes are regularly inspected by the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA) to make sure they meet the required standards of care set by the Department of Health.

Nursing care is also provided by independent organisations that work in partnership with the Trust.
