Neurodiversity

JAM Card

The Northern Trust has a number of services that are JAM Card friendly.

JAM stands for ‘Just A Minute’ and is a discreet way for people with hidden disabilities to signal they need extra time and patience. It is widely used across Northern Ireland and the UK.

The JAM card and app are free to use.

Autism NI Impact Award

Impact awards in neurodiversity, such as the Autism NI Impact Award, recognise organisations and individuals fostering autism-friendly environments and inclusive practices.

In the Northern Health and Social Care Trust, we have a number of services that have completed the Autism NI Impact Award.

As part of the process towards accreditation, staff from radiology, inpatient mental health, maternity, mental health supported living, day procedures and day surgery as well as Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and Children’s Early Intervention Services took part in Autism NI training.

We have identified champions who have developed and implemented action plans to help make their settings and facilities autism friendly.
