Activity volunteers
Help improve people’s experience by supporting activities that promote health and wellbeing. This may include:

- Beauty or nail care
- Complementary therapies
- Oral history work
Befriender volunteers
Provide friendly support to individuals or groups to help build confidence and independence.
- One‑to‑one or group support
- Based in a range of settings
Patient/client peer support volunteers
Offer encouragement, support and helpful information. Roles include:
- Breastfeeding peer support
- Bereavement Comfort Call
Service support volunteers
Help create a welcoming environment and support people to access services.
Roles include:
- Drivers
- Hospital radio
- Service improvement projects
- Meet and greet

Pets as Therapy volunteers
We recruit volunteers and their therapy dogs to support patients, residents and service users across the Northern Trust. These visits can provide comfort, companionship and emotional support.
